    Assistance in the organisation, realisation, and participation of the SME 5.0 Workshop in Chiang Mai, Thailand, together with 10 companies.

    The work included attending meetings and participating in the workshop itself.

    The lessons learned were later used to organise the workshop in Munich.

    On December 12, 2024, Chiang Mai University, Thailand (Prof. Dr. K. Y. Tippayawong) held an SME 5.0 workshop with local companies in cooperation with the Technical University of Leoben, Austria (Priv.-Doz. Dr. Manuel Woschank).

    During the workshop, the requirements and barriers in the intelligent, sustainable, and human-centered transformation of small and medium-sized manufacturing companies were developed in a structured manner.

    The results will be made available in a joint global study.

    Secondment in Bolzano - Amberlynn Bonello (Dec 2024 - Jan 2025)

    Ms. Bonello, along with Prof. Ing. Emmanuel Francalanza, attended the SME5.0 Winter Doctoral School organised by the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and held at the NOI TechPark in Bruneck-Brunico.

    This Winter School served as an indispensable asset for Ms Bonello to strengthen her academic and PhD skills (see below section), to strengthen collaborations with other PhD students at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano and the SMF team, and to foster novel collaborations and network with Phd students from Austria, USA, Germany, Italy, Columbia and India.

    Ms Bonello visited the Fraunhofer Italia Headquarters at the NOI Techpark in Bolzano, after an invitation from Dr Andrea Giusti who is in charge of the Robotics Arena. Dr Giusti explained the current research topics being undertaken by Fraunhofer Italia with regards to robotics.

    During the secondment of Priv.-Doz. Dr. Manuel Woschank at Chiang Mai University, Thailand, a questionnaire was developed to investigate the relationship between engineering competences in the field of operations management and performance.

    The questionnaire was conducted as a field study.

    The results will be presented as a paper at the ISIEA 2025 conference in Bozen, Italy:

    Research workshop at UniMel organized by Dr. Wen Li

    I participated in a research workshop with Dr. Wen Li’s group and his colleagues at the University of Melbourne, focusing on topics related to Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0.

    During the workshop, we had in-depth discussions on various enabling factors, challenges, and research directions within both industrial paradigms, particularly regarding human-centric innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable production.

    I also had the opportunity to present my previous and ongoing research projects related to Industry 5.0, including initiatives on digitalisation, human-technology interaction, and sustainable manufacturing systems.

    Secondment to Chiang Mai University

    Visit of Chiang Mai University for the secondment from 2 November 2024 to 30 December 2024.

    The visit included company visits, research exchange with local research group members, and assistance in organizing and hosting the SME 5.0 Workshop.

    Work on Work Packages 6.2 and 9.2 was carried out, and a literature research on inclusion and diversity in Southeast Asian companies was completed.
