  • Secondment at TUM

    Secondment at TUM

By Chawis Boonmee on Apr 17th, 2024

During my secondment at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, from 17 April to 1 June 2024, I engaged in collaborative research activities under Work Package 6 of the SME5.0 project, focusing on the requirements and barriers for inclusiveness and diversity in human-centred SME factories. As a representative from Chiang Mai University (CMU), I had the opportunity to meet with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johannes Fottner and his research team to discuss the alignment of our research interests in logistics and supply chain systems within SMEs. I participated in lab visits to facilities such as Smart Working Machines and Systems, Technical Logistics, and Production Supply and Supply Chain Management, which provided valuable insights into advanced German manufacturing and logistics practices.

In addition, I was invited as a guest speaker to share perspectives on logistics innovation and digital transformation in Thai SMEs, contributing to knowledge exchange across the SME5.0 network. I also visited BMK Electronic Development to observe real-world applications of Industry 4.0 and 5.0 principles in an SME setting.

This secondment led to the initiation of a joint research effort focused on improving logistics systems in SMEs, with an emphasis on inclusiveness and digital readiness. We began preparing a collaborative manuscript for future publication in an international journal. The experience also laid the foundation for extended cooperation between CMU and TUM, including researcher exchange and co-publication. Overall, this secondment significantly advanced my research network and provided practical insights for supporting SME development in Southeast Asia.
